Ochre Painting

Our miny’tji (clan designs) are our foundations, the footsteps of our ancestors that we must follow.

Our miny’tji tell us who we are, where we are from and who we are connected to. We paint in ceremony, on our bodies and our sacred objects, and we paint on ṉäku, the bark of a mature stringybark tree.

We collect our colours from the bush and saltwater shores around the Milingimbi islands, with special ochres traded with family from more distant places. Every painting is Country.
