Description
An-gujechiya are aesthetic objects, functional fish traps and dreaming totems.
Bonny was taught by her mother and father the art of making An-gujechiya and the use of it to catch fish. She remembers emptying the traps as a young girl and taking the fish back to her families camp.
An-gujechiya are made from mirlarl (jungle vine) or , young straight shoots are harvested from small pockets of jungle surrounding Buran.garra’s homeland of Yilan. The mirlarl must be worked quickly, before it dries out and becomes brittle. Each An-gujechiya is created over several consecutive days of intensive harvesting and weaving.
An-gujechiya belong to the Dhuwa moiety.
