Description
This work depicts the Burala, a sacred object representing the wing of the diving bird which when attached to string is swung around the head in order to make a whirring noise. The white lines on each side of the Burula are Manbirri (catfish bones), an important Gupapuyngu totem. The dots painted on the Burrula represent Guku (honey bee). These totems bring two Yirritja clans together for ceremony, both the Gupapuyngu and Gupapuyngu Birrkili clans.
