Description
This painting is associated with the place Ganbalkawirri. It depicts the Warraga’ (cycad nuts) at different stages of development and decay; from Watharr (white, immature) to Buthalak (yellow, ripe), Miku (red, tending overripe) and Moḻ (black, rotten). The Yirritja Warraga’ are carried by freshwater streams from the bush towards the coast. You can see the freshwater represented by the coloured rarrk (cross-hatching), and the gapu murnuk (dirty salt water) represented by the white rarrk.
