This work depicts the Dhuwa moiety Mäṉa (shark) who inhabits this site named Wandangurr at the boundary of Datiwuy and Wangurri clan estates. The Rarrk (cross hatching) represents saltwater currents through which Mäṉa swims.
This is where the Yirritja moiety ‘Gapu Gularri’ and Dhuwa moiety ‘Gupu Murupu‘ (salt water) mix to create Gapu Monuk (a mix of salt and fresh; dirty and clean water). This represents the ceremonial relationship between Datiwuy (Dhuwa) and Wangurri (Yirritja) Clans. Yolngu call this relationship Yothu Yindi (reciprocal) which binds them ceremonially.
