Description

This painting belongs to Gamaḻaŋga andLiyagalawumirr Birritjama clans and is associated with a place near Gaṯaṯa, near Ramingining.

The artist Djipurrtjun painted the work after doing “yindi buŋgul djäma” (a lot of ceremony work), and spoke about singing and dancing for riny’tjaŋu (yam or wild carrot) at Ramingining.

He explains “we know those leaves. You can go to the bush and find the leaves”. The yams can be dug from the ground and eaten or coooked on the fire. The leaves are also identifyable by the small baby caterpillars that gather on their leaves, which can be seen in the painting.

Recorded October 2024.
