Description
The songs (manikay) played at ceremonies with the yidaki tell the stories of the creation ancestors and the animal totems of the clans participating in the ceremony.
The tree is tapped with an axe to find the right tone of a tree that has been hollowed out by termites, the yidaki is usually made from the stringy bark (eucalyptus tetradonta)Â
The yidaki is made to suit the player by adding bees wax to the rim of the mouthpiece to mould into the lips for a good seal and better sound.
