This painting depicts an important totem for the artists mother clan, the Mäḻarra people. The Warrukay (Barracuda) exists in the waters around Murruŋga island, Galiwin’ku and Burulpurul, a small sand island located west of Gurriba, all places linked to Mäḻarra. The rarrk (cross hatching) in the background represents the saltwater surrounding these places in which the Warrukay swims.
