This Mäḻarra painting shows the different stages of growth of djewuḻ (seaweed) from it’s large tree-like form on the left, to growing leaves and seeds on the right-hand panels. In the centre panels you can see these seeds separated and beginning to grow again. In the centre is a sea tunnel, like an opening where water comes and goes. Mälarra have strong relationships with saltwater places, and a deep understanding of these species that live there.
