Mandy Batjula
Gunga Buthurupuy Earrings

$90.00

Body adornment has a long history in Yolŋu culture. Items made from locally collected materials—including seeds, nuts, shells, and plant fibres—are worn in ceremony and everyday life.

These woven earrings are made from gunga (pandanus), a plant carefully harvested, stripped, dyed using natural bush materials, and woven by hand. In the words of artist Ruth Nalmakarra, they’re made “to make us pretty”—celebrating beauty, culture, and connection to Country.
