Description

The an-gujechiya is a fish trap woven from mun-bola, a species of sedge grass, and requires great skill and knowledge to weave. There are only a small number of people that continue to weave an-gujechiya and paint the an- gujechiya miny’tji (sacred clan design). Once a year Milingimbi Art and Culture closes its studio so that its staff can travel to Yilan homeland to support artists to make an-gujechiya, in the hope that the skills and an-gujechiya dreaming stories will remain in living memory.
