Description
This painting shows three marawa (Long-finned Garfish or Long Toms) who are found in the tropical waters of Australia. When the reef flows fast, they stay there standing straight. The dots in the background represent the water flowing past. The deep waters around Garraṯa are notorious for strong currents and ceremonially connect Djambarrpuyŋu clans together. Three Djambarrpuyŋu clans share the painting and sing manikay (ceremonial song and dance) to connect them together and bind them in reciprocal ceremonial obligations.
